blogging break.

(image via pinterest)

I'm taking a break from this little blog of mine. My laptop is on its way out, which is making it harder to blog but I'm also running out of steam with it. I still love to read all these blogs and look at loads and wish mine was like them. I started it when I was still looking for a 'proper' job and that I have that job I want to come home and chill out and spend my spare time doing things for me and not feeling like 'oh maybe, I could blog about this' so, for now and maybe longer, I'm off.

just along the thames.

A few weekends ago Alex and I were invited to a past colleagues' wedding reception on a boat. I was not going to pass this opportunity up, I boat party up the River Thames. It completely poured it down all day but luckily the boat was not open and so we stayed cosy and, more importantly, dry!
The decorations were great too; little scramble messages dotted around the boat a long with poetry books and photos from their grandparents' wedding days. It was lovely to go to, and I'm glad Alex got to come along...oh, and the cupcakes and food was delicious!

yo!

Why haven't I been sooner?!

After a spot of shopping with my mum we headed for lunch; we already knew where we were going and my goodness we couldn't wait. So much so that we appeared a bit too keen and arrived pretty soon after the doors opened. We could have spent a fortune and so I think we were pretty restrained...this time. I loved the conveyer belt and choosing all the things off it, although we were close to needed a bigger table (I told you, we only had a little restraint). This place is going to become a regular of mine, I can sense it.

tlc in devon

This post was going to read something along the lines of not doing much and having a little pampering session this weekend but its now, all of this but in Devon.
After going months without going home, I am now going home this weekend; that's 2 weekends in a row. I'm not great at doing impromptu things as I'm one for planning and not rushing, but I've thrown all that out the window and off I go. I think it's really an excuse to see the dogs again.

take me back.

You may or may not know that Alex and I went to Glastonbury last week (I mean, it's not like I kept going on about it at all!). As always it was spectacular and so much fun; the fact that it was Alex's first time going made it all the better, even I explored things that I had never done before. I'll try not to keep going on about it for too long, but it truly is a pretty special place.

I spent all my money at the cider bus.

(one of my favourite sets, it turned me into a big Editors fan)

Off we go! I've been looking forward to this day since I managed to get tickets in October. Having been twice before I'm ready to go again. Bags are packed, welly boots are on my feet and I've optimistically packed my sun cream (we can hope right?!). I'm looking forward to a long break in a big huge field(s), with lots of music and no phone or internet. See you all next week...

test run.

This weekend, Alex and I got the final pieces for our Glastonbury trip. We are so excited, it's come around so quickly. I remember the angst, frustration and then excitement as we tried and got our tickets. I think we finally have everything, but then again how can you prepare when one weather forecast says rain and the other says sun? I'm packing all that I can into my tiny rucksack.

We even practiced putting our tent up.

Alex went for the trend of print clashing. We then realised how many things we both own which has animal shaped prints all over it (the only thing he was missing was my dog blazer).

this is it.

Today will be my last day in the job I've had since I first moved to London. In fact, it's all I've ever known even when working back home. I'm now becoming one of the 9-5 gang. It's all very exciting and nerve racking all-in-one.

summer in the city.

Sometime's it's so nice to have a day off in the week (trust me, I'm still living for that time when I never work weekends, but like I said, sometimes). Wednesday saw the sun shining, my sunglasses breaking and my bad idea of wearing black skinny jeans. Alex and I decided Central London was the place to be and it didn't disappoint (does it ever though?).Shopping, gorgeous food (here), and chilling by St Paul's. It was a pretty fantastic day off.

Oh and to top it all off I almost walked straight into Eddie Izzard- our first major celeb spot. We were pretty pleased with ourselves.

borough market.

When I was younger, I was taken through London Borough Market on a whistle stop tour of London by my gran. It was there that she showed me Bridget Jones' house and the spot where she saw Hugh Grant filming scenes from said movie. Fast forward ten years and I'm passing on those facts to Alex (he appreciated them, I could tell) while we were walking through the market, clutching our delicious lunch. It took us 2 walks round just to make sure we had made the right choice. We settled on a hog roast roll filled with apple sauce, pork and fennel and my goodness was it the right choice.

It was so yummy and it certainly kept us full for the rest of the day- and we needed it, we did a lot of walking.
I'm pretty sure we've decided this is the place to eat; just making our way from stall to stall.

london living.

I could get use to all these theatre trips- last weekend we saw Billy Elliot and it was very very good. And yes, like last time (here) I thought it was time to run away and join the theatre; or at least start doing ballet again.
So after having a very leisurely morning at home (after a night of bubbles and dancing the night before), we ventured into town and headed for afternoon tea. It's becoming somewhat of a tradition and boy are those sandwiches great reasons to keep heading back! The reason for this great adventure was my mum coming to town. It was pretty much every occassion rolled into one; seeing Billy Elliot was her Christmas present, it was of course Mother's Day and also a week before her birthday. Phew, so many celebrations for that fabulous mumma of mine.

wicked.

Whenever I go to a musical I always reckon I'd be fantastic in them- my jazz hands and dancing abilities are, of course, top notch. And my singing? Well it matches my dancing! Obviously, I am joking, but my mind really does take over and my long-time wish of being in the West End appears.
For a birthday treat we went to see Wicked, it was so good; amazing costumes, people flying and the most outstanding voice I've heard on the stage, it even made the people next to us cry! It was pretty fantastic but (yes a but, and coming from a musical lover this is a biggie)- there was an awful lot of singing. I mean a lot! Once you got use to this though it was a lovely night.

in the meadow we can build a snowman.

When it snows this heavily (well the heaviest I've ever seen here since moving from Devon) it's all about duvets, pjs and staying warm right?! Not on Friday it wasn't (thankfully I had this moment yesterday). I was stuck at work on Friday-no half day for me, just 30 minutes difference from our normal finish. So to make up for it, I came home and cooked a yummy casserole, snuggled under the duvet and read my book, while Alex watched a film. I really love the snow- I just wish it lasted longer.

Our extra slices of cake from Tuesday (here) went down a treat. Especially since I heated them up and the fudge and chocolate went all gooey. Heaven.

mini dishes and sparkly cupcakes.

Whenever Alex and I go out for dinner in London, Alex always seems to chose tapas. I love all the mini dishes and if we had our way (and the bill didn't have to come at the end) we'd probably would end up working our way through the menu in one sitting. Tuesday night, before our theatre trip (here), we went and ordered our loveliest tapas, and it was yummy. We also added a strawberry daiquiri to our meal; this was not so nice. I am a fan of cocktails and I've had many strawberry daiquiris before, not none quite like this. If rum and little else in terms of flavour is your thing, this is the drink for you. I'll tell you something it was a struggle to drink, and thank goodness we had food to go with it! This year we're trying to go to a whole load of new food places so tapas might not be on our menu for a while.

We also, finally, went to Candy Cakes-all I can same is many more delicious and sparkly cakes will be consumed from there. I'm a pretty big fan of putting glitter on my cakes (here and here, to name a few) and so they're on to a winner in my eyes.

Alex thought it'd be rude not to buy some more cake and bring it home with us. The lady was even kind enough to give us two slices for the price of one.

singin in the rain.

On Tuesday, Alex and I headed into town to shop for an evening at the theatre. Although I didn't come away with any shopping bags, I easily could have and so I think I've done well at saving a little (so far). Our evening at the theatre was so good. It was lovely to something different. Having said that, we do have tickets to go again for my birthday and we are planning to make it a regular thing, but still, it's the first of many. We saw Singin' in the Rain and it was pretty fabulous. We were way at the back of the theatre (and both of us were glad when the lights went off so we couldn't see how high we were really were), but we could still see everything, including rain showers and glitzy umbrellas.
