i'm terrible at goodbyes.

My parents came back from holiday and my dad came to stay before he had to fly out again due to work.  It was a great 24 hours. My dad is truly great at advice, general chats, hugs, lunchtime drinks, tea drinking and everything else in between.
While he was here we went for a little bite to eat, a couple of drinks and a long chat (it might have been a shorter visit to the pub if it hadn't had started raining, but I doubt it!). It was a lovely afternoon spent; one that winter weekends should be.
It really was the shortest of visits but he's promised to come up again in the New Year so I'm going to hold him to it!

a slice of cake.

Another birthday, another cake; this time it was for my dad. I made a Guinness and chocolate cake with a white chocolate ganache filing and then to top it off more ganache! Once it all set, it was like fudge. It was very tasty and a little slice went a long way. Yum.

happy happy birthday!

(image via etsy)

It was lovely to have my parents up here to visit but it was especially nice that my dad was still here today as it's his birthday. It was nice to be around and actually wish him a happy birthday and give him his presents in person; I haven't done that in about 3 years! We sprung cake and presents on him early as Alex had to go to work so excuse all pjs and bedhead shots.

a sweet treat for one great guy.

I was perusing Pinterest a while ago, trying to gain inspiration for my Dad's Father's Day present and I stumbled across something that I knew he'd love. It involved chocolate- all his favourite kinds. It was titled 'For One Sweet Dad' and I thought that summed him up completely. It was a perfect little present to make, and easy to send (which was so good considering we're hundreds of miles apart).

dad's day.

Happy Father's Day to my truly amazing Dad! I'm so looking forward to seeing him next month. He is a brilliant man, who makes me laugh, gives good hugs and the best advice.

waiting.

(image via etsy)

Alex and I have a busy weekend ahead of us and we cannot wait. It'll be good to get away to Kent for the weekend and to do something a bit different. We're currently awaiting the arrival of my parents, who are staying over tonight, before we all head off early Friday morning to Kent. We've got a few things planned; including meeting my friend Chantelle, which is lovely as for once we can meet a little nearer to her side of town. We're also going to do some exploring as we're keen to stay in this area of the country but this side is more expensive that the other side. Alex is also going to be meeting my dad's side of the family. So far he has only met my gran and her husband from that side of the family so it'll be new, exciting and nerve-racking. The christening is on the Sunday and I finally have my dress. It's fairly bright so hopefully the weather will be reflect this and it'll be sunny. We're (mainly Alex) are doing some last minute cleaning before my parents arrive, so it looks a bit more presentable. Better pick up the polish and start helping...at least its not hoovering!
