birthday snaps.

I'm not very good at taking pictures on my birthday and this year, happened to be no different.
We all turned up to eat food, drink wine and so photos seemed to take a back seat. I had a fabulous time, got some lovely gifts and spent the evening with great friends; it really was a lovely birthday.
Here are a few snaps from my very small collection of my birthday:

home time.

I haven't had a birthday at home for 4 years and although I wasn't there on my actual birthday, it's kind of nice to have a belated birthday/birthday weekend.
As well as my parents I get to see these beauties,

and that's pretty fantastic. Now, I should really get back to the thing I hate most- packing. See you soon Devon!

22 before 23.

Last year I wrote a list (here) and I accomplished very little from it. Maybe it was more a fantasy list but this year I've thought a lot harder for it. You wouldn't think of thinking of one more thing would be hard, but it really was. I'm hoping this year will be much more successful (fingers crossed).

in the meadow we can build a snowman.

When it snows this heavily (well the heaviest I've ever seen here since moving from Devon) it's all about duvets, pjs and staying warm right?! Not on Friday it wasn't (thankfully I had this moment yesterday). I was stuck at work on Friday-no half day for me, just 30 minutes difference from our normal finish. So to make up for it, I came home and cooked a yummy casserole, snuggled under the duvet and read my book, while Alex watched a film. I really love the snow- I just wish it lasted longer.

Our extra slices of cake from Tuesday (here) went down a treat. Especially since I heated them up and the fudge and chocolate went all gooey. Heaven.

my week, according to the photos i've taken.

I've had such a lovely week and I'm hoping the next one will be just as good. Of course there was the snow all through the week, which I love, but there was also a trip to the theatre (here) and lots of yummy food consumed throughout the week. Today, we're spring (winter) cleaning and waiting for Alex's parents to arrive. He's finally graduating this week and so his parents are up for that; it'll be the first time they've seen our flat. Besides that, I'm drinking copious amounts of apple tea, and looking forward to the week ahead (it also happens to be someones birthday, and I have a trip home coming up).

holiday.

This is the longest break I've ever had from work and I cannot wait. I plan to do a lot and also do little.
Happy holiday to me! (and yes, I am celebrating with 80s Madonna).

mini dishes and sparkly cupcakes.

Whenever Alex and I go out for dinner in London, Alex always seems to chose tapas. I love all the mini dishes and if we had our way (and the bill didn't have to come at the end) we'd probably would end up working our way through the menu in one sitting. Tuesday night, before our theatre trip (here), we went and ordered our loveliest tapas, and it was yummy. We also added a strawberry daiquiri to our meal; this was not so nice. I am a fan of cocktails and I've had many strawberry daiquiris before, not none quite like this. If rum and little else in terms of flavour is your thing, this is the drink for you. I'll tell you something it was a struggle to drink, and thank goodness we had food to go with it! This year we're trying to go to a whole load of new food places so tapas might not be on our menu for a while.

We also, finally, went to Candy Cakes-all I can same is many more delicious and sparkly cakes will be consumed from there. I'm a pretty big fan of putting glitter on my cakes (here and here, to name a few) and so they're on to a winner in my eyes.

Alex thought it'd be rude not to buy some more cake and bring it home with us. The lady was even kind enough to give us two slices for the price of one.

singin in the rain.

On Tuesday, Alex and I headed into town to shop for an evening at the theatre. Although I didn't come away with any shopping bags, I easily could have and so I think I've done well at saving a little (so far). Our evening at the theatre was so good. It was lovely to something different. Having said that, we do have tickets to go again for my birthday and we are planning to make it a regular thing, but still, it's the first of many. We saw Singin' in the Rain and it was pretty fabulous. We were way at the back of the theatre (and both of us were glad when the lights went off so we couldn't see how high we were really were), but we could still see everything, including rain showers and glitzy umbrellas.

I took a fairly big step last week and a whole wieght lifted. I now feel so much more focused and positive now that it's done. Yay!

gourmet burger night.

The other night Alex decided to road test his burger press that he got for Christmas. As a huge burger fan I thought this gadget was a perfect fit for him and it didn't disappoint. Not only did the burgers taste fab (we tried a new recipe) but the press made them look so precise and like an actual burger (if you've seen our previous burgers then this is pretty great for us).

my week, according to the photos i've taken.

Finishing the festive season in style and then on to the New Year. I'm jumping on that healthy bandwagon- I usually am quite fit and healthy but the flat just got colder and colder and the duvet and the sofa became more and more appealing, but not anymore (at least, workout first then hibernate). So far this week, I've booked tickets home for a belated birthday to me (I cannot wait), started to do up the flat a bit, those cushions are the biggest and comfiest cushions I've ever seen. I've had my eye on them for almost a year but were so expensive (£35 a cushion, yep each!!) but they went in sale and I did a happy jig in the shop. I like January (once I've actually got over the reality I have to wait a year for Christmas again), it just feels new.

a little bit of homemade.

So today really is the last day that you can really get away with a Christmas post. I may have moved on to the New Year and all it brings but still I do really love Christmas. I thought I'd give you a little recap of the homemade gifts that I made for people. I'm pleased to say they went down a treat and it made all those hours of making and packaging even more worthwhile.

Chutneys for my Dad.

Cinnamon bubble bath and Grapefruit bubble bath for my Gran.

Chocolate bark (and various truffles and white chocolate discs,
which, I of course, forgot to take pictures of).

Happy Birthday little blog of mine, for tomorrow you shall be one year old.

a fancy pyjama party.

We had New Year plans of going out and seeing the New Year in with style, but then I was still ill! But still, we made the best of it; in the morning we went for some breakfast. It was lovely and something that we're planning on doing a lot more often. In the evening, we put some bubbles on to chill, dressed up a little bit fancy at home (I say little as we both wore a pjs with something a little fancy, leggings and shirts), and saw the New Year in together.
Happy New Year.
