gbk

My goodness, why hadn't I been here sooner?! With a cheeky little deal found on my phone and some time to spare before the cinema, Alex and I headed off to the Gourmet Burger Kitchen and it was scrummy.
I enjoyed everything, to their special salt on the skinny fries, to my amazing ginger and lemongrass fizz. They had all the giant windows open and so it was nice to lap up the last of the heat before my favourite seasons kick in. Even then it'll be great to go there; who can say no to a giant, mouth watering burger?

^  mmm, yummy fizz ^

yo!

Why haven't I been sooner?!

After a spot of shopping with my mum we headed for lunch; we already knew where we were going and my goodness we couldn't wait. So much so that we appeared a bit too keen and arrived pretty soon after the doors opened. We could have spent a fortune and so I think we were pretty restrained...this time. I loved the conveyer belt and choosing all the things off it, although we were close to needed a bigger table (I told you, we only had a little restraint). This place is going to become a regular of mine, I can sense it.

borough market.

When I was younger, I was taken through London Borough Market on a whistle stop tour of London by my gran. It was there that she showed me Bridget Jones' house and the spot where she saw Hugh Grant filming scenes from said movie. Fast forward ten years and I'm passing on those facts to Alex (he appreciated them, I could tell) while we were walking through the market, clutching our delicious lunch. It took us 2 walks round just to make sure we had made the right choice. We settled on a hog roast roll filled with apple sauce, pork and fennel and my goodness was it the right choice.

It was so yummy and it certainly kept us full for the rest of the day- and we needed it, we did a lot of walking.
I'm pretty sure we've decided this is the place to eat; just making our way from stall to stall.

a feast.

The coats are slowly turning into jackets, pumps are being worn and my winter scarf is nearly hidden at the back of wardrobe so this can surely mean one thing; spring is finally, almost here. To make the warmer weather Alex and I had a little feast this Monday. I'm sure you remember how we don't have a garden so all our feasts, bbqs and picnics happen inside; this one was no different. It was so yummy, and we were so full we had to save pudding for the next day!

this weekend

was all about:

# cooking copious amounts of food.
# painting my nails a brighter colour.
# arranging a dinner date with a good friend.
# meeting Alex after he finished work, just so we could get dessert.
# being sandwiched between two duvets. It's just so much cosier than
being underneath just one.

pizza pie.

Oh my goodness- this has to be one of the best pizzas we've cooked. Although the toppings piled so high it started to resemble some kind of pie/cake. It was so delicious, and yes there is actually a bunch of veg underneath all that cheese!

no mid week slump for me.

I love having friends over; no special occassions, no big news- just for a catch up and some good food.
Last week, Alex went ot and so it was the perfect opportunity to have a girlie catch up with a vry good friend of mine. I even made food! Although, while making it, I did have a mini stress: I was cooking lasagne for an Italian! But I got the seal of approval from her and so I'm pretty pleased with myself. We ate, talked about everything and watched The Hills (god, I love that show!)- it was the best Wednesday I've had in a while.

a fox away from home.

Back in Devon we have an amazing local where pretty much all my friends and family go. I'll admit there have been many a late night and taxis from there. So, when Alex and I found a place called The Fox up here, it just had to be tried. It was such a cozy little place- anywhere that uses fairy lights for decoration is a winner in my books. The food was fantastic as well, we went for lunch, and had a mini selection of a few things (and the portions weren't as mini as they let on!). It such a lovely place we're already planning another trip back there soon and many more after that I'm sure.

birthday snaps.

I'm not very good at taking pictures on my birthday and this year, happened to be no different.
We all turned up to eat food, drink wine and so photos seemed to take a back seat. I had a fabulous time, got some lovely gifts and spent the evening with great friends; it really was a lovely birthday.
Here are a few snaps from my very small collection of my birthday:

mini dishes and sparkly cupcakes.

Whenever Alex and I go out for dinner in London, Alex always seems to chose tapas. I love all the mini dishes and if we had our way (and the bill didn't have to come at the end) we'd probably would end up working our way through the menu in one sitting. Tuesday night, before our theatre trip (here), we went and ordered our loveliest tapas, and it was yummy. We also added a strawberry daiquiri to our meal; this was not so nice. I am a fan of cocktails and I've had many strawberry daiquiris before, not none quite like this. If rum and little else in terms of flavour is your thing, this is the drink for you. I'll tell you something it was a struggle to drink, and thank goodness we had food to go with it! This year we're trying to go to a whole load of new food places so tapas might not be on our menu for a while.

We also, finally, went to Candy Cakes-all I can same is many more delicious and sparkly cakes will be consumed from there. I'm a pretty big fan of putting glitter on my cakes (here and here, to name a few) and so they're on to a winner in my eyes.

Alex thought it'd be rude not to buy some more cake and bring it home with us. The lady was even kind enough to give us two slices for the price of one.

gourmet burger night.

The other night Alex decided to road test his burger press that he got for Christmas. As a huge burger fan I thought this gadget was a perfect fit for him and it didn't disappoint. Not only did the burgers taste fab (we tried a new recipe) but the press made them look so precise and like an actual burger (if you've seen our previous burgers then this is pretty great for us).

nero is my hero.

A few years back my mum and I were shopping and popped into Caffe Nero for lunch. It was around this time of year and so they had their festive treats on offer. It was here that I first tasted their turkey, cranberry and stuffing panini. and my goodness it was delicious! I told Alex about them and of course they disappeared...until now. They have come back and we pounced on an opportunity for a yummy lunch.

catching up.

I love catching up with friends, most particular the friend I went out with on Saturday night. I used to work with her and since I left (a month ago already) we have barely gone a day without being in contact with each other on the phone, and pretty much meet once a fortnight, if not more. To me she is a true friend that I have made and we can talk about anything and we pretty much don't stop talking. We were so prepared to meet this Saturday that we knew where we were going and what we were going to eat about a week and a half before the actual day itself! These burgers were heaven; when the menu said mini burgers I was expecting something more cute than tasty- I was wrong. I think it's safe to say I was in food heaven! And an evening topped off with cocktails, is a good night had. To the next evening...

tapas in covent garden.

Last week Alex and I had to venture out in the pouring rain to central London. It poured and we both got very wet and so Alex decided to take me out for dinner while we were there. It was lovely and so very filling.
