just along the thames.

A few weekends ago Alex and I were invited to a past colleagues' wedding reception on a boat. I was not going to pass this opportunity up, I boat party up the River Thames. It completely poured it down all day but luckily the boat was not open and so we stayed cosy and, more importantly, dry!
The decorations were great too; little scramble messages dotted around the boat a long with poetry books and photos from their grandparents' wedding days. It was lovely to go to, and I'm glad Alex got to come along...oh, and the cupcakes and food was delicious!

gbk

My goodness, why hadn't I been here sooner?! With a cheeky little deal found on my phone and some time to spare before the cinema, Alex and I headed off to the Gourmet Burger Kitchen and it was scrummy.
I enjoyed everything, to their special salt on the skinny fries, to my amazing ginger and lemongrass fizz. They had all the giant windows open and so it was nice to lap up the last of the heat before my favourite seasons kick in. Even then it'll be great to go there; who can say no to a giant, mouth watering burger?

sometimes on a sunday.

^ Sunday morning's breakfast was pretty good too ^

Sometimes you just need a Sunday roast; today is that day. We had initial plans of inviting some friends round and having a traditional family afternoon lunch, instead, we scaled it down. That's right, we made it just us (I feel like saying 'and the dog' which would just be perfect, but we can't have one just yet). We had a typical Sunday, of a late start to the day, strolls, films football and hearty lunch. Next time I swear will be more welcoming and invite people (we did have people over on Friday so we haven't been complete recluses this week), I mean its fast approaching autumn, which means it'll be perfectly acceptable to cook a roast every Sunday.

by the riverside.

I really love strolling along the river when its nice out. It was so cloudy when we first headed out so by the time the sun hit I was melting in my jeans. I seem to make this error a lot. We had a little wonder before deciding that jeans really were bad and headed for home.

You can hire rowing boats and go up and down the river. I'm convinced that I'd get stuck and people will have to come and rescue us. Alex assures me it'll be fine and so if the weather gets nice again I think we're going to head out on the river.

take me back.

You may or may not know that Alex and I went to Glastonbury last week (I mean, it's not like I kept going on about it at all!). As always it was spectacular and so much fun; the fact that it was Alex's first time going made it all the better, even I explored things that I had never done before. I'll try not to keep going on about it for too long, but it truly is a pretty special place.

I spent all my money at the cider bus.

(one of my favourite sets, it turned me into a big Editors fan)

Off we go! I've been looking forward to this day since I managed to get tickets in October. Having been twice before I'm ready to go again. Bags are packed, welly boots are on my feet and I've optimistically packed my sun cream (we can hope right?!). I'm looking forward to a long break in a big huge field(s), with lots of music and no phone or internet. See you all next week...

test run.

This weekend, Alex and I got the final pieces for our Glastonbury trip. We are so excited, it's come around so quickly. I remember the angst, frustration and then excitement as we tried and got our tickets. I think we finally have everything, but then again how can you prepare when one weather forecast says rain and the other says sun? I'm packing all that I can into my tiny rucksack.

We even practiced putting our tent up.

Alex went for the trend of print clashing. We then realised how many things we both own which has animal shaped prints all over it (the only thing he was missing was my dog blazer).

coffee dates.

Okay so maybe it's tea or some kind of fruity drink but still they're dates in my favourite places and better yet Alex keeps treating me and taking me to them!
With a coffee shop just opened up just underneath us this could spell trouble, especially in the winter months when their shops will no doubt be warmer than our flat and will be selling tea and soup. Yes...I'm thinking of winter already. What can I say?! I love that season.

Sunday Funday

We watched: Buffy.
We ate: paninis.
We strolled: around Richmond.
We imagined: spending our money on lots of nice and new things.
It reaffirmed: that we both need to have our weekends off together.

summer in the city.

Sometime's it's so nice to have a day off in the week (trust me, I'm still living for that time when I never work weekends, but like I said, sometimes). Wednesday saw the sun shining, my sunglasses breaking and my bad idea of wearing black skinny jeans. Alex and I decided Central London was the place to be and it didn't disappoint (does it ever though?).Shopping, gorgeous food (here), and chilling by St Paul's. It was a pretty fantastic day off.

Oh and to top it all off I almost walked straight into Eddie Izzard- our first major celeb spot. We were pretty pleased with ourselves.

borough market.

When I was younger, I was taken through London Borough Market on a whistle stop tour of London by my gran. It was there that she showed me Bridget Jones' house and the spot where she saw Hugh Grant filming scenes from said movie. Fast forward ten years and I'm passing on those facts to Alex (he appreciated them, I could tell) while we were walking through the market, clutching our delicious lunch. It took us 2 walks round just to make sure we had made the right choice. We settled on a hog roast roll filled with apple sauce, pork and fennel and my goodness was it the right choice.

It was so yummy and it certainly kept us full for the rest of the day- and we needed it, we did a lot of walking.
I'm pretty sure we've decided this is the place to eat; just making our way from stall to stall.

a feast.

The coats are slowly turning into jackets, pumps are being worn and my winter scarf is nearly hidden at the back of wardrobe so this can surely mean one thing; spring is finally, almost here. To make the warmer weather Alex and I had a little feast this Monday. I'm sure you remember how we don't have a garden so all our feasts, bbqs and picnics happen inside; this one was no different. It was so yummy, and we were so full we had to save pudding for the next day!

this weekend

was all about:

# cooking copious amounts of food.
# painting my nails a brighter colour.
# arranging a dinner date with a good friend.
# meeting Alex after he finished work, just so we could get dessert.
# being sandwiched between two duvets. It's just so much cosier than
being underneath just one.

sonic.

I'm so pleased with this cake and even more so when I saw Alex's reaction.
I may have ended up with a kitchen full of blue icing and I may still be finding hints of blue here and there but it was totally worth it.

the chicken or the egg.

Easter Sunday fell on Alex's birthday so it naturally meant one thing; even more chocolate. 22 in fact! Yep, I woke up early and snuck around our teeny tiny flat trying to hide various types of Easter egg for his birthday Easter egg hunt. I think he was surprised that they just kept appearing out of nowhere. I thought he'd be eating them for awhile, but it turns out they'll be gone sooner than I could've imagined!

The rest of the day included a mega movie marathon, presents, party food and cake. I think that's a pretty great combination for an Easter birthday.

on friday...

# My highest wedges were worn.
# There was an awkward moment regarding the tip (I'm so sorry waitress).
# We got split up for about an hour so me and my friend thought the best plan was to order cocktails and then catch them up.
# I wore a blazer with hearts all over it.
# I danced to Phil Collins.

put down the phone and sing happy birthday.

(image via acompletelife)

I promised myself a whole day away from social media tomorrow. I know it shouldn't be anything special to shy away from it for one day but I get into such a habit of ' I'll just look at this' and 'I'll just post this' that it'll be nice to be away from it. It also means that I'll have time to completely immerse myself into Alex's birthday. Yes, Easter Sunday and his birthday all on one day. It's safe to say a lot of food will be consumed, especially since his one request for the day is 'to do nothing but watch films and eat chocolate!' This I can do (note to self: work extra hard at swimming in the following weeks, work that chocolate off :P). I'll fill you in on the birthday events and, of curse, the cake but for now, goodbye internet and all your distractions and
 Happy Birthday Alex!

a fox away from home.

Back in Devon we have an amazing local where pretty much all my friends and family go. I'll admit there have been many a late night and taxis from there. So, when Alex and I found a place called The Fox up here, it just had to be tried. It was such a cozy little place- anywhere that uses fairy lights for decoration is a winner in my books. The food was fantastic as well, we went for lunch, and had a mini selection of a few things (and the portions weren't as mini as they let on!). It such a lovely place we're already planning another trip back there soon and many more after that I'm sure.
